Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is set to become Arsenal‘s U-18s assistant manager after completing his Uefa A coaching licence, as reported by Goal.com.

The former France international is expected to take the role for the beginning of next season and will be alongside former Gunners player Kwame Ampadu, who himself has been in the position since 2012.

Henry completed his Uefa A coaching licence back in March under the supervision of the Welsh FA and he is now able to manage below Premier League level or a youth team but the 38-year-old has chosen the latter to gain more experience at managerial level.

However, Henry’s completion of his licence has been shrouded in controversy as some coaches have come out and said Arsenal’s all-time top goalscorer has benefitted from favouritism by being fast-tracked by the Welsh FA.

It is reported to take 180 hours of study over a period of a year to complete the licence but Welsh coach Will Foley, who played for Swansea in the 80s, has hit out at the apparent brevity of Henry’s study period.

He said in March: “There was no way humanly possible Thierry had even completed his UEFA B licence and could have finished all his assessments and tasks on the A licence when everyone else participating on the course has not even had the chance”

Despite the controversy, Arsenal fans will be delighted with Henry’s official involvement with the club after leaving the club for the second time in 2012. And with calls for Arsene Wenger to be shown the Emirates exit doors, the fans will be pleased with the steps their former captain is taking to become a manager and maybe an Arsenal one in the future.
