Five Kenyan Officers Killed In Grenade Attack In Mandera
No fewer than five police officers were killed on Monday morning after their vehicle was hit by a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) near Kotulo.
The police officers were escorting a passenger bus from Mandera before the incident happened.
The attackers, police say, also burnt the vehicle.
“We condemn the attack by al-Shabab at Dimu this morning, five police officers killed,” Governor Roba, said on Monday.
The officers were escorting the bus christened Desert Cruiser that was travelling to Nairobi.
The passengers had spent the night at Kotulo and had left in the morning.
Mandera County Police Commander Job Boronjo confirmed the morning attack and said the bus was not hit.
In 2015, three people were killed during a dawn attack a few kilometres from Kotulo when gunmen attacked a bus and a lorry.
Al-Shabab, a group known for its campaign of terror in Somalia, has a long record of launching attacks in Kenya as a revenge for the country’s contribution to the African Union (AU)’s mission in Somalia.
