US Cancels Visas Of House Of Reps Members Accused Of Attempted Rape

The US government has cancelled the visas of the three house of Representatives members involved in sexual scandal while on official trip in Cleveland, USA.

The members identified as Hon Samuel Ikon, Mohammed Gololo and Terse Gbillah representing (PDP, Akwa Ibom), (APC, Bauchi) and (APC, Benue) respectively were accussed of attemped rape and soliciting for prostitutes by US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle while on assignment in April this year.

In a petition written by the US Ambassador to Nigeria sent to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the US government alleged that while the lawmakers lodged at a Cleveland Hotel to attend the International Visitors Leadership Program, Honorable Gololo grabbed the housekeeper of the hotel they lodged in and solicited for sex while the other two lawmakers asked the hotel parking lot attendants to help them get prostitutes.

As punishments for their misconducts, the US government has cancelled their visas, barring them from entering the US.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House Of Reps, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, on Thursday, directed the investigation of the three members involved in the sexual scandal.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, confirmed the cancellation of the visas of the affected members. He said the House Speaker Dogara decided to investigate the scandal following a formal complaint by the US Ambasador to Nigeria, James Entwistle.

He said, “We are in receipt of a letter from the US Ambassador, alleging misconduct by some members of the National Assembly, who attended training in the United States of America.

“The leadership of the House has commenced its own part of the investigation. When it is concluded, we will brief Nigerians further on this issue.”

The lawmakers however denied the allegations when Dogara first sought their explanations. They said it was “baseless and untrue” .
